Exciting Developments in Stock Simulation with new “Enhance” Algorithm (Video)
Back in April, we shared some news about the work we had begun on developing a new enhancing algorithm, and since then, we’ve made remarkable strides in its development.
Today, we are thrilled to share more insights and let you experience the incredible model quality that our new “Enhance” algorithm produces. Watch the video below to see it in action.
Revolutionizing Material Removal Simulation
Our new algorithm is an addition to the raw stock model calculation that enhances it by cleverly taking into account every tool sweep and the exact profile of each tool. This approach provides a close-to-realistic simulation of how a part will actually look when machined.
The “Enhance” algorithm leverages tool sweep information to accurately measure and correct errors on the generated stock model. With each iteration, it reduces simulation errors, allowing it to reach arbitrary levels of precision by simply running for more iterations. With this capability, we can enable users to set the quality of the stock simulation based on a maximum simulation tolerance.
In the video, The “Enhance” algorithm runs for a moderate amount of iterations. It can be tuned to be more accurate or even faster than demonstrated. With a moderate setting, as in the video, the quality far outperforms our existing methods and it still runs significantly faster, completing within a few seconds even for large parts, on modern GPUs. A single iteration with the new “Enhance” algorithm updates almost instantly while still providing better results than the existing “Refine edges” filter currently being used.
Introducing “True Vision” Mode
In addition to the “Enhance” algorithm, we are excited to unveil an additional mode we call “True Vision”. This mode uses a ray-tracing-like process to render a pixel-perfect view of the stock model, allowing you to inspect every little detail. True Vision updates in less than a second on good GPUs and activates automatically when the camera is still. While the camera is moving, the quality reverts to the “Enhance” algorithm model, ensuring a seamless user experience.
Looking Ahead
We are incredibly excited about the new algorithm and the significant quality enhancements it will bring to stock simulation in CIMCO Edit and Machine Simulation. We look forward to releasing a beta version for everyone to test later this year.
If you can’t wait – we will be present at IMTS 2024 next week! Our booth (133217) will be located in the ‘Software’ section in the East Building on Level 3. IMTS 2024 will run from September 9-14 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.
