Zero Point Work Shift

The Zero point for programming is chosen to suit the programmer and usually set at a point taken from the engineering drawing. The Zero point on the machine is set by the Machine tool Builder. When setting up the job on the machine we must find the difference between the programming zero point and the machine zero point

Once we have established the difference between machine zero and programming zero the value of the X and Y difference will be entered into the Word Shift table for G54 – G59. When the command G54 – G59 is executed from the program then the distances will be summed in the position registers and all further movements commanded in the program will take place using the programming zero.
